Asin Thottumkal was born on 26th October, 1981. She believes staunchly that her name in Sanskrit means ‘without sin.’ She is a Catholic and hails from the Beautiful Indian coconut State of Kerala. She is the daughter of Joseph Thottumkal and Seline Thottumkal. Her father is a businessman and her mother is a surgeon. Though Asin started on her journey into the world of films in the South, she was quick to make her way into Bollywood and even sustain it. Though quite choosy about her roles, she is quite clever to grab bigger, better and different roles each time.

Asin was a debutant in 2001, when she was just 15, acting in “Narendra Makan Jayakanthan Vaka” by Sathyan Anthikkad. Her initial commercial success was in the Telugu movie “Amma Nanna O Tamila Ammayi” for which she was awarded the best actress. It was again another Tamil movie “Ghajini” by A. R. Murugadoss that shot her into fame. The same film’s remake in Bollywood starring Asin against Amir Khan made her receive a debut award in Bollywood too. Critics say that she looked fresh and fabulous with Amir Khan. Asin has starred in a number of Telugu movies with renowned actors like Kamal Haasan, Nagarjuna, Venkatesh, Prabhas and Pawan Kalyan. Her acting in ‘Dasavatharam’ opposite the veteran actor Kamal Haasan was well appreciated. She previously graced the silver screen in the Telugu films ‘Annavaram’, ‘Gharshana’ and ‘Chakram’.

Asin currently has her fingers crossed for “London Dreams” by Vipul Shah. It has a five troupe band – one of which is Asin. The film stars great actors like Ajay Devgan and Salman Khan to heighten up the expectations. Asin has recently been on the judge’s panel for 2009-Femina Miss India and Big Bazaar’s- India Ka Fashion. ‘19th September’, an international movie which would star Kamal Haasan, forms another very essential part of her upcoming ventures this year. Thus 2009 holds high opportunities and expectations. No wonder that’, she is seen more often now a days in T.V commercials, award functions and other events.
